Orientations and Elections

Dear Parents:

    We encourage you to make a difference in the governance of our school by participating in this year’s School Site Council (SSC) and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). These groups are required by the California Education Code and directed by LAUSD policy. The SSC is mandated under California Education Code 65000 and makes decisions regarding the School Plan for Student Achievement, the Comprehensive School Safety Plan, categorical funding and other related matters. The SSC represents all our stakeholders and is comprised of teachers, parents/community, other school staff, principal or designee, and students in secondary schools only.

    The ELAC is mandated under California Education Code 52176(b). All schools with twenty-one (21) or more English learner (EL) students are required to establish an ELAC.   The ELAC advises on programs and services for EL students and on strategies to engage parents in support of their child’s education. The ELAC consists of parents or legal guardians, not employed by LAUSD, of EL students or Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) students who have reclassified within the last two years and other interested stakeholders.

    We will hold ORIENTATION and ELECTION meetings for all who are interested in participating in SSC and ELAC.  Please join us on the following dates/times for the 2020-21 Orientation and Election Dates are every third Tuesday of the month at 3:00 PM until we return to campus.

Parents:

The Master Plan Options Meeting will be held on September 14, 2020 at 3:00 via Zoom.

Join us to learn about what your student’s educational options are and what the difference in the types of classes are.  The meeting will have a short video and a discussion after.  The Agenda for the meeting is below this announcement.

What is the Master Plan?

The Master Plan provides:

(1) guiding principles that underlie and set the foundation for the content in the chapters;

(2) discussion of topics relevant to understanding, supporting, and educating EL and SEL students;

(3) details on the programming available for ELs and SELs;

(4) resources for teachers and administrators implementing the curriculum and assessment for those programs;

 (5) ideas for family engagement; and,

(6) selected resources for further information and assistance. The content included in the Master Plan reflects and serves to fulfill the District’s mission: embracing our diversity to educate L.A.’s youth, ensure academic achievement, and empower tomorrow’s leaders. We are L.A. Unified.
