Mr. Gravning's 7th grade Summer Reading List...

Voluntary summer reading that will help prepare for 7th grade English includes:

THE HATE YOU GIVE by Angie Thomas.  This novel remains relevant given current events.

THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET by Sandra Cisneros.  This Mexican-American classic uses poetic vignettes to tell a moving coming-of-age story.

AMERICAN BORN CHINESE by Gene Luen Yang.  This graphic novel won the Printz award and proves that comics are a true art form.

Also, The Los Angeles Public Library is holding a Summer Reading Challenge here:

As always, keep your child reading a minimum half hour each day.  You can also have him/her figuring tax, adding grocery bills, food bills, dividing bills, etc. to work on basic math skills.  You can find various math and English websites where they can "play" games that are actually educational in nature.  These are quick ways to keep your child learning throughout summer.  Always check the LAUSD website for various educational You Tube channels:  https://achieve.lausd.net/domain/4
